Structure of atoms

• Elements are made up of peculiar particles that are called atoms
• Each element has its own unique atoms
• The atom is the smallest part of matter that can take part in a chemical change
• All the atoms of the same element for example iron have the same properties
• Different atoms combine in small numbers to form compounds
• During chemical reactions in which new atoms are formed atoms are rearranged
• Atoms are made up of even smaller particles known as protons, neutrons and electrons
• The atoms one element have the same number of protons and electrons
