Primary producer warehouses

  • There are two main types of primary producers warehouses in Zimbabwe:
  • Grain silos used to store grain by the Grain Marketing Board.
  • Tobacco Auction Floors.

Grain Silo

  • Run and managed by the Grain Marketing Board.
  • Are used to safely store grain.
  • Various grains are graded and then prepacked.
  • The grains can then be distributed evenly when centrally controlled.
  • Imported grain is stored to prevent shortages.
  • They are also sued to stabilise the price of grain.

Tobacco auction floors

  • This is where tobacco for sale is stored.
  • Tobacco is graded.
  • Tobacco is packed into bales after sale.
  • An example are the Tobacco Sales Floor and Boka Sales Floor.
