About the New Curriculum
Starting November 2018 students will be examined under the new curriculum. The curriculum introduces the concept of continuous assessment. Whereas students used to be assessed using final public examination after seven years in primary school, four years in Secondary school and after two years in High School, under continuous assessment students will be continuously assessed.
In practice only Grade 6 and 7, Form 3 and 4 as well as Form 5 and 6 coursework is recorded with ZIMSEC. This coursework will make up 30% of the students final grade. Currently assessment is in the form of tasks with students required to complete a task each term for each subject they are taking which is marked by their teachers and ratified at school, district, provincial as well as national level. Due to delays however students writing in November 2018 are supposed to complete one task in 2017 3rd term and 2 tasks during the first and second terms of 2018.
It is important to note that apart from various cosmetic changes there has not been much change in the content within the subjects themselves. Most of the changes come in the form of changes in philosophy and assessment methods.
