  • The male condom is used to sheath(cover) an erect penis just before sex
  • The female condom is inserted into the vagina just before sex
  • Both condoms prevent sperms from entering the vagina

Effectiveness

  • 99.6-99.8%
  • They are more effective if used with a spermicide

Advantages

  • No need for a prescription
  • Provides protection against HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections
  • Maybe used as extra protection with other methods
  • Reversible

Disadvantages

  • Must be used with every sex act and cause disruptions
  • Must be worn before any contact between sexual organs
  • Reduces sensation
  • There is risk of slippage/bursting
  • Possible side effects

Side effects

  • Some people are allergic to latex (the material used to make  most condoms)
